Celebrate with Orchids

The first Santa Barbara International Orchid Show was held at the Montecito Grange Hall in 1945. For 70 years it has continued to be an annual event that attracts orchid enthusiasts from around the world.

The original show created such an enthusiastic response that growers brought a collection of orchids valued at over $200,000 to the competition for top honors the following year. Santa Barbara is now home to the largest concentration of orchid growers in the United States.

This year’s Celebrate with Orchids will offer some unique and playful opportunities to personalize your experience at the show. There will be an ‘Orchid Selfie Photo Booth” where you can stage a photo shoot to include your newly purchased orchid companions.

Many of the orchid varieties have been bred to emit beautiful scents to attract pollinators, so the ‘aroma’ of the show is described as floral and very ‘romantic.’

Whether you are an avid photographer, an interested gardener, an enthusiastic orchid grower, or someone who simply enjoys the captivating beauty of orchids, presentations of the best and most beautiful orchids from around the world will be on grand display. You will have the opportunity to purchase orchids cultivated in regions as distant as South America, Japan, and Europe.

Educational demonstrations will be held throughout the event to give you access to professional instruction on propagating and growing healthy orchids.

Suzi I. from Los Angeles gave the show a 5 Star yelp review and had this to say about her visit:

Yes, I love orchids but the event is fun even if you don't love them!  The show last year was beautiful and, combined with visits to the growers, it made for a spectacular day full of more flowers than I could have imagined…very magical. Get a list of growers- Santa Barbara Orchid Estates and Cal-Orchid- Wow!  Take your girlfriend, mother, or grandmother. My friends and I drive up from LA, visit the orchid growers in Carpenteria and Santa Barbara then hit the show followed by dinner…..”

If you are looking for a casual dining option before or after the show…..On the Alley makes a great choice for delicious food and a harbor-side location.
